Created by virtue of an agreement between the Fundación BBVA and the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, it is financed in its entirety by the Fundación BBVA. Since 2002 Clásicos do Pensamento Universal has been publishing careful Galician translations, made from the original languages by experts on the subject, of those works in the scientific, humanistic and social fields that have represented a landmark in the intellectual history of humankind. Plato, Aristotle, Seneca, Machiavelli, Erasmus, More, Newton, Lavoisier, Beccaria, Darwin, Bernard, von Neumann, Popper, McLuhan, can now be read in authoritative critical translations introduced by a specialist. The collection, directed by professor Darío Villanueva, has a scientific committee that meets on a yearly basis. It is the director and the scientific committee that decide what titles will be published.
