This thematic volume gathers part of the papers presented during the XXIX International Congress of the Association for the Teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language (ASELE), held in Santiago de Compostela from September 5 to 8, 2018. The event brought together participants from more than forty countries, a rich mosaic that reflects the level of universality of the second language of the planet. The central theme of the congress was divided into three work blocks: The linguistic profiles in the teaching and learning of Spanish as a foreing language/second language; Individual factors in learning Spanish as a foreign language/second language, and Contexts in teaching Spanish as a foreign language/second language.
